we live in a beatiful world?

Chris Martin once sang "We live in a beautiful world, yes we do, yes we do"..Well not really Mr Martin, not in Singapore for sure.

IMF kicked start 2 days ago, along with its brou-haha of the 28 banned activists despited some of them being accredited by the IMF itself. I think the government is taking this event a tad, no make alot, too seriously. It's a known tradition, since god knows when, that every Multilateral Organisation events are greeted with hoardes of anti-globalisation or 'whatever-grouses-you-have-against-structured-organisation' demonstraters. Its a mutually exclusive, non formalised pact.

So at the height of global scrutiny, we further proved our detractors right that we are the scared-shit, rigid society living within bordered lines. No! Dont you step out!!! ... Case in point? Allowing protests ( see we can be flexible with our system *roll eyes) only within clearly demarcated yellow lines (hello, we need to keep up with our Fines system to keep the money rolling..so step out of it if u want to contribute ok?). And did i mention that it can only be done INDOORS??

Admittedly, i am appalled. So ok, Mr 'whoever-thought-of-that-'bright-idea, time to snap out of the idealistic world you are living in pronto! FYI, demonstrating and conforming are two words that can never create the synergy u are seeking. Demonstrators don't go, "oooh well demarcated yellow lines! Finally I can use my loud speakers, given that the DELEGATES ARE REALLY FAR AWAY!!" or "oooh indoors, screw my motives being heard by the public, at least im sheltered from the rain".

Sighz, Uniquely Singapore indeed. Now I know why 'Live it up Singapore' got canned.

Actually what peeved me off and in return got my undies twisted in knots is the fact that the new season of Survivor is BANNED from Singapore. So what if there's a racist plot to it? What happened to opening up? Are Singaporeans that shallow to see beyond the show's racial groupings to realise that it is afterall a publicity stunt to ante the ratings? Despite the tasteless direction of the producer, it is still entertainment. So chill, seat back and relax can?

We live in beautiful world? Yes, Chris Martin, it is beautiful especially with cute yellow lines surrounding ours. Now, if only they (the lines) are coated with sugar candy. urrgh

and i am just that dejected fella deprived of my yearly dosage of survivor

Mr yellow lines: i like your nick. who are u?

anyway, blogs are meant for one to express thier views freely. But that privilege is only reserved for ppl who live in a purely democratic society.

Yes, factors of security and peace within the country should always be of utmost concern. But do we really need to 'reign the bull by its horns' to achieve that? Nurturing and controlling are 2 different things altogether.

Get my drift? =P
